I know we will quickly say it’s God, well, that is not wrong but it is deeper than that. When God created the man, he gave him all duties in the garden when he is yet to create the woman;
Genesis 2:15
And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
The instructions to guide the life of man was given to the man also before his wife was created. By implication, all roles of making a home was given to Adam by God. But when God created the woman he called her help-meet but he did not assign any role to her.
By God’s intention, he created the woman as the assistant of man and he expects the man to assign relevant and reasonable roles to his wife using his God wisdom and discretion. In any organization, it’s the head who assigns duties to the subordinates. In this order too it’s the man who assigns duties to his wife and not tradition.
He can assign her to pay the children school fees if she has the means, cook for the family or clean the house etc. God did not mince words when he told the man that his wife is a weaker vessel, that is, she’s not as strong as he is, so in assigning duties to her, he expects him to put that into consideration.
This is unfortunate as many men have over the years abused this authority by assigning roles that are killing their wives. This why we have frustrated, depressed and nagging wives everywhere today. Every man must know that his wife is weak and must not be converted to a slave.
Assign duties to her reasonably, not forgetting that the whole duties are yours and the success or failure of it is your responsibility not hers. God will ask you on the last day not your wife because it was you he gave the duties not your wife. She was only created to help you.
And for the woman, refusing to carry out your husband’s order is a disobedience to God’s authority and of course could attract God’s anger.
