- MARRIAGE IS NOT A CRITERIA FOR MAKING HEAVEN.
You don’t have to be married to be a proper child of God. Jesus wasn’t married and same applied to the Apostle Paul, yet they were more Christian than most others who got married. In fact, not getting married gives one the time and liberty to serve God better.
- GETTING MARRIED IS NOT A GUARANTEE FOR SUCCESS IN LIFE.
However you choose to define success, it is not automatically achieved once one gets married. It’s funny to know that some persons define success as getting married. The truth is, some persons were successful until they got married. Marriage can become the foundation for one’s failure, if not being done properly.
- MARRIAGE IS NOT MAN’S IDEA
Marriage is God’s divine idea; it is His institution. “And God said, ‘it is not good for man to be alone…'”. When you have this understanding, you will not run your marriage according to man’s standards and principles – which can not sustain your relationship. Running your marriage with God’s instructions is the only guarantee for a lasting marital relationship.
- MARRIAGE IS NOT A CONTRACT.
Marriage is a covenant, not a contract. It is not an ordinary covenant; it is a BLOOD COVENANT. In a contract, a party can choose to walk away if the other is not meeting up to his/her end of the agreement, a blood covenant is ‘Till death do us part ‘.
- MARRIAGE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE.
There is nowhere in scripture that puts getting married as a command. You can choose to stay single and dedicate your life to God, not as a religious obligation, but as a willing sacrifice to God. If you feel that getting married is not for you, then it probably isn’t. However, be sure you’re not losing faith in marriage because you’re finding it difficult to find a spouse, and be sure you can maintain sexual purity as a single.
