Text: Titus 2:1-5
Aims & Objectives: To emphasize that if a woman duly performs her role, her marriage will be formidable.
What Is Marriage: Marriage is a covenant, a sacred, intimate, mutual and also exclusive relationship or bond between a man and woman, instituted by God and entered publicly before men and God. The term exclusive in marriage means: no man is permitted to disrupt the marriage union between a man and woman (Matt. 19:4-6).
The Role Of The Woman In Marriage
Becoming a woman can make you a good wife, but knowing the role of a wife will make your marriage formidable. If we understand that the woman was made for man, the roles become clearer (1Cor. 11:8-9). The roles of a Christian woman in marriage are as follows:
1) Submission to Husband’s leadership: A christian woman must submit to her husband in all things that are godly (Col. 3:18).
2) A Teacher: Teaching is part of the calling of a godly wife. They are to teach younger women (female children inclusive), how to behave and take care of their home (Tit. 2:4-5).
3) A Role Model: Her character should be such that exhibit’s Christlikeness and stirs her children and others to praise and bless her (Prov. 31:27-28).
4) A Helper: She is to assist the husband fulfil the purpose of God for his life. This is the reason God instituted marriage (Gen. 2:15, 18. 1Cor. 11:8-9).
5) An Intercessor: One primary role of the woman in marriage is to intercede in prayers for the husband whether he is good or not (1Sam. 25:23-33).
6) Adviser To The Husband: She is not to usurp authority over the man or force the man to hearken to her will, using feminine advantages, but lovingly and prayerfully advice the husband regardless any issue (1Sam. 25:32-33).
7) Shower Love On The Husband: She is to show unconditional love to her husband and seek to please him in all godly ways (Prov. 31:12, Tit. 2:4).
8) Prepare Food For Her Home: I’m busy, it’s late, etc. is no excuse for a godly woman. She protects her home by personally preparing food for her husband and children (Prov. 31:15).
9) Manage Her Home: She is to manage the funds of the home and see that all her husband wants to be done in the home are properly done (Prov. 31:27).
10) Raise The Children: Though Husband does part of the raising, but the woman is the main raiser of the children. If the children turn out to be good or bad, it is mostly due to the impact of the woman (Prov. 29:15, 17, 31:1-4). She is to train the children in the way of God.
CONCLUSION: There is this saying that men are the head, while women are the neck. The weight of the head rest on the neck. Therefore, if the head will turn freely, the neck must understand it’s role to assist the head. That is why it is often said that, “Behind every successful man, there is a woman.
The roles of the woman entails sacrifice to comply with, but as you strive to do the will of God you become more like Christ and project a married worth of your calling for others to see and glorify God (Matt. 5:16, Eph. 4:1-3).
