This is a gentle reminder to you who is yet to get into relationships, love or marriage, that the school of fools is not full. Admission is still open and ongoing, if you don’t want to be admitted then you have all what it takes to go into love with your head. It’s easy to become a fool in the name of love.
Love can sound sweet but it’s a war or a battle field. Only fools go into such fields with their eyes and minds closed. If love is not a battle field, you won’t get hurt. If love is not a war or battle, leaving someone you love will be an easy thing to do. We won’t fight to hold on to a relationship or person who causes us pain all because we love them.
It’s a big error to run into love without your head. For love can blind you so much that you can have the truth printed in black and white, yet you read it and it makes no sense to you. Love can blind you so much that, you cannot differentiate between right and wrong. That is why immorality is on the rise. When the married fall in love with the single, they forget such relationship is wrong. No matter how wrong it is, they try to make it right by even divorcing the person they married and vowed to be with for better or worse, and go for someone they are having fun with.
I get worried when people try to advice those in love, it’s like advising a man or woman who is drunk. Your advice can be useless or be as noise to them. Have you wondered why you advise a friend or relative about an unhealthy relationship with all the signs visible, yet they don’t listen to you or still jump into the defense of their partner even if they are abusing them or taking advantage of them. The truth is, foolishness is not a stranger to a fool, once they are in love, your advice makes no sense at times.
This is where the scripture is so right, “If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him” – 1 Corinthians 13:7 (TLB).
After all, falling love is not such a bad thing and if it is evil, it is a very necessary evil. But what one must not forget is that falling for the wrong relationship or person is what makes falling in love such a dangerous venture. So, before you embark on such a journey, let your head guide you. Get to know the person before you fall in love with them. If they claim they are single, the question is, how single are they? These days, people have their own definition for the term and it is a must to find out and make sure you are all on the same page.
Don’t just accept a proposal because you are single or lonely, find out exactly what they want from you. If it is your picture on someone’s DP that is leading them to you, maybe they are interested in the picture not you. If they want to have a future with you, find out what kind of future they are preparing for you so you can know if you fit in or not.
Are they looking for boy/girl friend or a husband/wife. Are they looking for fun or commitment? Are they looking for someone to serve them, meet their needs or are they looking for someone they can serve and meet their needs? Find out what makes you special out of the millions of people on this earth; and don’t fall for powerful words but movable actions.
Timing is very important, you’ve got to know from them how ready they are, when do they want to settle down. What are their plans towards that and in case things don’t go the way they want, any back up plans? The last thing you need is someone to waste your time. A person who seeks to waste your time is not different from a person who seeks to waste your life.
In conclusion, you have the singular honour to “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life” – Proverbs 4:23 (NLT).
