We were asked several times by youths “what is the appropriate age for a man or woman to marry?”.
There is no PERFECT AGE until a person is mentally, emotionally, financially, and spiritually prepared.
The perfect age for marriage is a myth. No one can tell you at what age should you get married. But, ideally, it should be your maturity or readiness that matters the most. Maturity and age don’t co-relate.
Marriage requires GOD’S GRACE and it doesn’t matter at what age you get married, if you don’t seek KNOWLEDGE, invest your emotions with GOD’S WORD and do the right thing, it will never work.
A successful marriage can only be built by two MATURE PEOPLE. Maturity does not always come with age and for some people, it has to be consciously learned and practiced to get to the desired level of BEING RESPONSIBLE.
Being responsible does not have anything to do with age. As the ancient proverb says, “age is just a number”. That is why St. Paul said… “when I was a child, I spoke as a child. I understood as a child, I thought as a child. But when I became a man, I put away childish things”. 1 Cor. 13:11. Maturity helps couples, lovers, and friends to live peacefully, joyfully, and cordially.
The Bible does not specify any particular age requirement for a person to be married; rather, it speaks in general terms of marriage being for those who are “grown-up” (Ruth 1:12–13) or “past the flower of her age” (1 Cor. 7: 36). A person must be FULLY GROWN to be married; he or she must be physically mature enough for sexuality and child-bearing. Beyond that, the Bible does not specify a minimum age for marriage.
This means the believer has liberty in this area: we may marry at whatever age seems best to us. But let us also put into consideration the verse that said, “…wisdom is profitable to direct”, Ecclesiastes 10: 10.
