She angrily walked in the house, entered the bedroom and threw her Bible on the Sofa. She didn’t even greet her husband. That was on a Sunday afternoon.
“So you haven’t washed the car? And infact, how come you have not thrown the dirt in the bin? What kind of a husband are you”? She shouted in the bedroom.
He didn’t say a word.
She sneered and walked to the bathroom.
“See, you used the bathroom without flushing it? Whom do you expect to? Am I your slave? I wonder why this dead beat man is called my husband. I don’t know why I allowed myself into this mess. She shouted again from the bathroom.
She is wrong about this. She had forgotten that she used the bathroom this morning and did not flush. But because of her arrogance and complaining attitudes, the husband didn’t say a word. He only took his ear phones and started playing some videos on his phone.
As she came back to the bedroom, she quote few Scriptures and prayed.
“Are you Okay”? asked the husband.
“I should be asking whether you are Okay. You are the burdens and irresponsible so-called husband I have. See you didn’t even go to Church Service today. People don’t go to Church but to Church Service. I really wish you were a Christian” She spoke.
He looked at her and said “Well, if putting on good clothes to attend Sunday service and come home like you is what makes one a Christian then many will wish to stay home and be a better a person than what you have become. I get disappointed when women like you talk about being in the things of God. Many women like you covered their bad attitudes under good clothes and pretend to be an active member in the things of God. The things of God is not a shrine of the devil to keep wicked people”
” How dare you to me, you don’t know I am Christian. So you doubt it” she shouted.
He cleared his throat and continue ” Our Creator is not Someone to fool with. If you continue like and be hiding under the umbrella of God, one day you will be exposed and conplain that your days are changing into darkness. Life is too short for the kinds of pressure you are putting on yourself. Your arrogance and complaining attitudes plus pretending to be right with God is only helping to destroy your peace. You always remarked that I am not a good enough husband to be with but I just want you to note that a woman who is aggressive or arrogant will never see how good a husband she has. Marriage is not a death sentence, you can walk out when you deem necessary. But when you continue like this, you will not see the good in any man”
Silence…
“Many marriages are failing today because the majority of wives seen to be proud and control the mood in the home forgetting that men are the heads of home. I am not saying I don’t love you or if you leave you will not get different man but as he gets to know this attitudes of yours, he will find it difficult to; find you sexy, have conversation with you, make love to you, and to love. The fact that you are carrying pretty face doesn’t mean you will make a good wife and more to this, no husband is happy to kiss the lips that stink him and to make love to she that is aggressive” he spoke.
She just nodded.
” The ratio of women in the things of God today especially frustrated and divorced wives is far beyond men. Some are seeking the Church as a refugee camp for the divorced. Many young girls go into marriage/relationship today and exit tomorrow not to their willingness but thru attitude problem. I foresee you entering this refugee camp of the divorced where you will stay forever if you don’t change” he let her know.
Her eyes started welling up with tears.
She wanted to ask whether he’s about to divorce her then it hits to her mind that all she has been doing to him worths divorce. He is right. She little appreciates him, she doesn’t see any good in him but realistically, he’s a good man, husband. She imagined life without him and that picture looks dull.
“I am sorry honey, sorry for letting you down. Please don’t leave me” she apologized.
” I am not leaving you. I only want you to leave those attitudes of yours. It takes a man to bear situation for times but when his cup gets fill, he acts in second. Here! You see this” he said giving her his phone to watch the video that was already playing.
The video was of him and her during their wedding day. How she promised she will not talk down at him. How she will be submissive and will not let him down. How her attitude will make him want to make love to her even in the bathroom. How she will not embarrassed him or disturbed his peace of mind when he forget to do something.
As watched the video further, she got shamed and disappointed of the woman she had become.
She wiped her tears and reached out for her wedding gown. She dressed up in her wedding gown like when she was getting married. She held her husband by the waist and recommit to her wedding vows afresh.
There that day, husband and wife reconciled on their marriage bed. Love was restored as the bed carried the weight of two loving bodies.
