In this part of the world, you are not just married to your partner, you are also married to your in-laws. No matter how glued a man or a woman is to his or her spouse, they’re inseparable with their family members, especially the parents.
To continue to live at peace with your spouse, you must carry the family along, you must reach out to them, you must care for them, you must respect them etc. And by so doing, you are also making your spouse happy. And if your spouse is happy, you will be happy too. If you are in the good book of your in-laws, trust me, they will fight your course. It will amaze you that these in-laws are members of council where your cases are determined, they maybe operating behind the scenes but they have strong influence over your spouse. If you lose them, you may lose your spouse.
If you are wise, you won’t hate your in-laws. Don’t be hostile to them, tolerate their excesses like you tolerate your family’s excesses. Don’t attempt to totally snatch your partner from them, allow them have access to him/her. You are married to him/her but they’re still blood relations. Don’t try to separate them. Be wise!
If you show hatred or resentment towards your in-laws, your spouse will be secretive in dealing with them.
If you try to discourage your spouse from helping his or her people, he/she will start doing it secretly.
If your spouse realized you are giving attention to your people more than his/hers, it will build a fence of division in between you.
If you disrespect your in-laws, you are likely going to get it back from your spouse.
If you think your parents need more attention than his or her parents, don’t just swing into action without carrying your spouse along. Discuss why you think your parents need more attention than your spouse’s parents.
