When you marry, you also marry the family your husband or wife is coming from as well. So it’s good to build a healthy relationship with your in-laws so that they can speak well of you even when the unexpected happens.
Let’s dive deeply into some strong reasons why your in-laws may hate you, and remember; there are some you can physically work on and others you need to deal with them spiritually (through prayer etc).
1) When the marriage with their son / daughter is depriving them from some benefits e.g., the way their son / daughter used to call them, support them, visit them or come home during special occasions, etc., after the marriage everything has stopped. Now you alone is benefiting or you have seized their son/daughter from doing the needful. This is how they think.
2) The bad informations their son / daughter has been sharing with them about you: “My husband is like this, my wife is like that; he or she does this or that to me—today this and tomorrow that.” Frankly speaking, one may forgive his/her partner for all that, but remember how you presented your partner to your in-laws— hasn’t changed. It always echoes in their minds and they will always use it against him / her though everything is fine.
3) Through exaggerations and certain notions they get from society , personal experiences, etc., they form these opinions, e.g., “all fair ladies are promiscuous (manizers), all guys with tattoos are bad , people from this tribe do not treat women or men well,” and so on.
4) A suggestion or plan they brought up, but you said no to it, or your partner just told them that my husband or wife said no. Just disagreeing with them can make them hate you.
5) If your attitude towards them when they come around you or when you are around them isn’t positive or healthy, understand that they will hate you.
6) When they never agreed to the marriage, but you manage to marry that husband or wife of yours (through pregnancy, disobedience, tricks ignorance, etc.). So they hate your husband or wife already.
7) Spiritually, you people do not connect; it may be that what’s in that family doesn’t tally with yours, thus spiritually. And we have situations where some parents marry’s their own children spiritually and even sleep with them physically. So how will they like you.
8) May be an issue happened some time ago between you and them but it wasn’t properly resolved or you never chose to apologize or do the needful.
9) The fear or notion that you will someday do something bad to their daughter or son. Their conscience is always fighting them. And they always become fault finders
To conclude ; my dear, do good to them no matter how they hate or treat you. Gift them with something occasionally in your name , and always pray about it because the king’s heart is in God’s hands thus if you are facing related issues.
Never deprive their son /daughter from doing the needful, just encourage him and always protect your relationship with them, never ruin it.
