There are realistic and unrealistic expectations, talking about unrealistic expectations, here are a few.
1) That your partner will NEVER offend you.
Nobody is perfect, in a Relationship or Marriage, offenses are a given, they’ll come.
That’s what forgiveness handles.
Prepare your mind ahead to forgive and continually work on your relationship/marriage.
2) That Things will ALWAYS be smooth.
Marriage is full of ups and downs, the good moods and the mood swings.
Some days you’ll be feeling really lovey dovey with each other, other days you will feel like why did I even get married to this Man/Woman self,
Take everything in a stride,
Understand that everyday won’t be the same,
3) That they will ALWAYS LOOK Beautiful/Charming.
After watching plenty Nollywood movies, where women sleep and wake up with complete make up, don’t think is like that in Real life.
Sorry to burst your Bubbles.
Your wife will wake up with Morning mouth odor that will shock you on some days.
Because now you aren’t married to her, you see her everyday after she has had her bath and made up, you think she wakes up looking like that,
Marry her first na,
You will wake up and see her hair scattered like a bush that was hit by a hurricane, she will look scary on some days, pregnancy will come and do its own, menstruation nko?
He or she will not always look handsome or beautiful, but you’ve made a decision, love them through it all.
4) That they will ALWAYS agree with you.
EXCEPT you married a robot, EXPECT disagreements on issues, expect No’s to requests.
Be flexible, listen and see reasons with them, not just getting angry that they said No.
5) Sex will be WOW EVERY time.
You think sex will be three times a day, seven days a week, You no dey go work?
You think anytime you are in the mood, they will be in the mood?
You think you yourself self will always be in the mood abi? I laugh in Swahili
If you like, don’t build friendship.
6) That they are Perfect.
You see that sweet curvy lady you are drooling over now,
You see that perfect gentleman you are busy shouting “I die here” for,
Some soak clothes for days without washing,
Some scatter clothes everywhere
Some fart very demonic farts that can give you heart burn,
There are little querks people have, that you will only discover when you Marry them,
and when you have married, you have married, be good at conflict management, this little querks don’t necessarily need to be deal breakers..
Unrealistic Expectations will always lead to Realistic Problems between you and your partner.
