It was on the cross of Calvary where Jesus defeated the devil that your victory was settled for ever. Satan and his cohorts are eternally defeated. Jesus is Lord for evermore. And if you have put your trust in His sacrifice at Calvary, you are to walk in the victory that was secured for you there, all the days of your life. For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive Gods abundant provision of grace and His provision of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. Romans 5:17 NIV.
To be an over comer is to prevail over our enemies and all negative circumstances, and still stay true to God, and be strong in His grace and power. Then we can serve God all the days of our lives. This is the will of God for us. Many times when we fail and fall, we blame God. This is wrong. If ever there is a problem or failure, the fault is not Gods. He has made available all grace to keep us victorious at all times. When His people are taken captive or defeated, there is always a reason for it.
I read a scripture recently that set me thinking. Judah was exiled to Babylon because the people worshipped idols. (I Chronicles 9:1 LB). The pattern is always the same. Judah will never go into captivity when the people are walking in the light of the Word of God and in intimate fellowship with Yahweh – the God of Israel; but when they go into sin and idolatry and refuse to repent, they get whipped.
If you fail at one point don’t blame God. Being an over comer implies that there is something to overcome. It gives an impression that there is a war and an enemy. This is very true. We are engaged in spiritual warfare against the devil and his host of demons who constantly seek to break our fellowship with God, in order to hinder our spiritual progress and render us useless in the service of the Lord.
We must understand this and should not be ignorant of the devices of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12.
These wicked spirits use all sorts of devices against us. These range from discouragements to disappointments, bereavements, persecutions, hardships, victimizations, family crises, various pressures and difficulties – either at home, at work, at school, in the church, or in the society.
They tempt us to sin against God and some of these temptations are cunningly devised. They could also try to use wrong or unbalanced teachings to confuse, hinder, disturb, weaken and poison us spiritually. Strained relationships, false accusations, emotional stress, strife, fear and discouragements are part of their tools of attack against the saints.
