“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life⦠nor any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God.” – Romans 8:38-39
The unconditional nature of God’s love is greater than any challenge our sin could bring against it. That’s why the apostle Paul describes God’s love with a series of powerful extremes. It’s a poetic way to say that nothing–absolutely nothing–is able to “separate us from the love of God.”
“Neither death nor life.” (Everything is either dead or alive.) “Nor things present, nor things to come.” (Everything either is, has been, or will be.) “Nor height, nor depth.” (Nothing can outreach or over extend His unconditional love for us.) “Nor any other created thing.” (This fills every imaginable loophole you could think of).
Absolutely nothing separates us from His love.
And neither should anything separate your love for your husband or wife. The love you’ve promised the other in marriage cannot include escape clauses and negotiated terms. You simply must not look at it this way. It either is true love, or it’s not. But if you want it to be God’s kind of love, it must be ready and willing to go all the way.
QUESTIONS:
If God’s love is unconditional, then is there anything that anyone has done or will do that will separate you from His love? What would happen to your heart if you truly believed and received God’s unchanging love for you?
